Apple Wins Patent Suit Against Samsung in The Netherlands

Apple has yet again defeated Samsung in a patent suit related to bounce-back scrolling in Samsung’s Android handsets. A court in the Netherlands recently handed Apple the victory but, unlike in other areas, the court didn’t issue an injunction against Samsung’s tablets and smartphones.

Instead, it took a more level-headed approach by allowing Samsung eight weeks to update the smartphones and tablets accused of infringement. The suit applies to devices running earlier versions of Android, including Froyo and Gingerbread – as Engadget notes, anything newer uses blue hues to signify to the user that he or she has reached the end of a page or list (instead of a bounce back scroll effect).

Samsung has to move quickly, however. It will face a fine of $100,000 for each day that it doesn’t update the devices past that 8-week deadline.
